DSC is against puppy mills and backyard breeders. DSC supports rescue efforts nationwide and encourages pet parents and breeders to join in both the support of rescues and the allegiance to a healthy and prosperous breed.

On February 17, 2014, ABC News aired a video about stray Chihuahua rampaging through parts of Pheonix, AZ. You can read about this sad problem here.

The Humane Society of the United States posted an article on 1/31/13 that ended commercial breeders' motions to block the Texas State new puppy mill law. This new "law instructs the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to inspect and license large-scale commercial pet breeders with 11 or more breeding female dogs or cats and who sell 20 or more puppies or kittens each year" (HCUS, 2013).  You can read the entire article on the HCUS website.

Along these same lines the Federal Government has recently cracked down on Internet sales of puppies without the buying actually viewing the puppies, the parents, or the environment, and who have four or more breeding females.  There is a lot of controversy in this regulation, including the AKC, large and small  and "hobbyist" breeders.  You can read about this issue at the Huff Post.
